I'm always on the lookout for websites that work especially well for women. I use a set of criteria to rate websites based on research on how women use the Internet and shop online.
Partybeans.com does a great job.
Here are the reasons why this website does well with women.
Design - This is a clean simple design - not cluttered. The site uses softer rounded corners which is a design aesthetic women like. And the color scheme uses female friendly colors.
Images - The site features positive images of people. Women want to see not only products, but how people use/react to the product. The banners flash different occasions giving her ideas of what types of occasions/parties the product can be used for.
Copy - The copy lets her know right away what the site offers and how it's a benefit to her.
Create customized gifts and party favors!
- starting at just $1.99
- no minimums
- ships next day
She knows she can create customized gifts and party favors, the images tell her what kinds of occasions/parties these gifts will be appropriate for, and the bullet points address her main concerns - how expensive is it, and how soon she can get it. Whenever you offer a product for a special occasion, you need be very specific about delivery times because she wants to make sure it will arrive on time.
PartyBeans makes creating personalized party favors and gifts easy. Pick a container, add candy, photo, text and you're done!
This copy addresses her other main question, how does this work? Is it hard to create these party favors?
Call to Action - The site offers a clear, strong call to action with a giant "Get Started Now" button. Women like clear directions of where to go next.
Usability - The process of choosing the container, image, message and candy is very simple and intuitive.
Check Out- Right in the shopping cart it lets her calculate shipping and tax -so no unpleasant surprises.
The one suggestion I would make to partybeans.com is to include the icon for the featured candy more prominently. Right now it's sitting in the upper right corner disconnected from the rest of the site. The well known brands, M&M's and Jelly Belly are candies moms know and love. They can increase credibility and desire for the product. I'd like to see those logos featured in a more prominent place in the home page.
Partybeans.com does a lot of things right. I'd love to know what their conversion rate is. My guess is it's pretty high.

I like that you rate the design of the site. This is a big deal to me, I hate having to look around on cluttered sites.
