Media Bias and Why We Need Twitter

I love the Internet.  Seriously.  It is the great equalizer.  It provides a voice for so many that have not had one.

We used to rely on a few controlled channels to get our news and information.  Now, the channels are unlimited.  Yes, that can sometimes be a bad thing, but for the most part, I think it's a good thing.  It means we get more than just one side of a story.

Case in point:  Twitter and Saudi Women

Today I saw two tweets citing two different takes on the same issue.  The two takes could not have been more different.

 

 
The tweets are pointing to different articles, but about the same issue.

The first tweet links to an article by Frank Watson on Search Engine Watch.    The second tweet links to an article by Mark Memmott on NPR.

I'm a long-time student of language and the bias we all display in our word choices.  Every one of us looks at the world through our own personal filter.  We also report on what we see through this filter. 

This is why we need Twitter and other sharing and reporting platforms. It gives all of us a chance to have our voice heard.
