She works hard for the money.....so hard for it honey...
Donna Summer often pops into my head when I look at order confirmation pages. They are some of the laziest, "Hey, I'm just here to take my minimum wage paycheck and go home" kind of pages.
Think about it....
"Thank you for your order. Here's your confirmation number. Have a nice day."
A customer has just spent money with you. They have accomplished their goal. This is a prime place to engage them to take further actions, or send them off with a little something positive to remember you by.
Make a great last impression. Remember, the first and last part of an experience are the most important.
Here's an example from Zappos. This is an order confirmation page working its little patootie off:
Notice the links at the top of the page providing actions customers can take to further engage with the website and the Zappos brand. What a perfect place to offer these action choices. Since your customer has completed her purchase - you are not interrupting her shopping process, you are making it easy for her to continue it.
5 elements to include on your order confirmation page
- Links to other areas of your site- Like the "Take a peek inside Zappos" that links to the company blog. Consider linking to any interesting information about your company, upcoming events, charitable causes you support, etc.
- Link to your social media presence -Provide links so customers can sign up for your Facebook fan page or follow you on Twitter. And be sure to include a place they can sign up for your newsletter or to receive future promotions.
- Include a personal thank you from your company leader. A short, authentic note from the CEO or company founder complete with a signature indicates a sense of personal involvement from the top of the company.
- Offer a discount on the customer's next order. As a thank you, offer a discount on the customer's next purchase order. Get him or her thinking about doing business with you again. It's kind of like getting an unexpected gift.
- Have some personality. Most of these types of transactional pages are incredibly stiff and boring. Have a sense of humor. People aren't expecting it here, which is why it can have such an impact.
Here's an example of showing some personality from Despair.com - an anti-motivational product company:
If any of the information shown below is inaccurate,
please notify us immediately using our Troubled Ticketing
system. We will rectify your error immediately, and on some occasions, without snickering. It is the least we can do, which, as a matter of policy,
is the most we can do.
One of the reasons I love shopping at Despair.com is because of this wonderful quirky voice. They are brilliant in infusing this humor throughout the entire shopping experience - even the order confirmation page.
How hard is your order confirmation page working?
Thanks for sharing the details.Look forward to hearing from you soon again.
