More and more companies and advertisers are waking up to the power of mom bloggers.
Nielson recently published a list of their top 50 mom bloggers.
Nielsen also published its list of the top 50 mommy bloggers, which categorizes these influential online contributors by topic and behavior-based segment.
In what Nielsen calls “a collection of leading voices in the mom blogosphere,” the Power Mom blogger list is based on a blend of blog posts and comments, and inbound/outbound traffic captured via Nielsen BuzzMetrics, as well as Twitter followers and other metrics.
Companies are anxious to reach out to these influential women to help them promote their products.
Using Mom Blogger to Promote Musicians
I also recently read about a venture with Barbara Jones and One2One Network and Steve Greenberg of S-Curve Records to promote one of my favorite new artists Diane Birch.
In his blog A VC, Fred Wilson asks the question, Is Mommy Blogging the New Radio? He talks about the Diane Birch promotion:
And so as part of the launch of Bible Belt, Diane and S-Curve have teamed up with the mombloggers to get the word out about Diane and Bible Belt and also raise money for charity. They've created a series of widgets that mombloggers can run on their blogs introducing their readers to Diane's music and linking to Amazon and iTunes so people can purchase the record. And each momblogger will select one of several charities to get $1 per record sold. That's most of S-Curve's profit on the record which is priced at $6.99 for digital download. Here is the widget in case you want to run it on your blog.
I love so many things about this story. I love that Steve and S-Curve continue to look for novel ways to leverage social media to launch new artists. I love that they've connected so deeply with the momblogging community and are leveraging them to get the word out. I love that they've incorporated good and needy causes into the campaign. And I love that Diane's music is going to get heard far and wide as a result.
I couldn't have said it better msyelf.
Mom bloggers are a powerful and fascinating group. I'm doing an entire research study on why moms blog. (Mom bloggers - the research is ongoing so I'd love to hear from you!) Armed with this insight, I'll share my research with advertisters to help them do a better job of understanding, connecting with, and tapping into the power of mom bloggers everywhere.
